Company dyeing to recycle.

Bendigo Advertiser 22/08/2009

A new wastewater recycling plant in Bendigo designed and installed by Australian water technology company Waterwerx Pty Ltd will help save 45 million litres of water each year and help secure water supplies in the region.

Regional and Rural Development Minister Jacinta Allan yesterday opened the new plant at the Victoria Carpets complex. “This project is about recognising that local businesses have a role to play in reducing their water use,” Ms Allan said.

The recycling plant takes water from the dye baths and treats it for re-use in the dye bath process.

Ms Allan said the Bendigo complex would save up to 60 thousand litres of water a day. “When you put that together with the Castlemaine plant it will save up to 45 million litres of water a year “ she said.

“This is a great example where every part of our community can play a role in saving water and recycling water.”

Victoria Carpets managing director Barry Poynter said the plant would drastically reduce water use. “At the moment we are saving somewhere between 50 and 60 per cent of our previous usage.”

As well as saving water and cutting trade waste, the investment in infrastructure would help secure jobs in the region.

“Anything that takes cost out of the final product is a step in the right direction,” Mr Poynter said. Victoria Carpets received a $114,500 grant from the State Government to complete the project.
